"If the day and night are such that you greet them with joy and life emits a fragrance of flowers and sweet herbs~ that is your success. All nature is your congratulations."

Traditional Indian Head Massage

Head Massage has been practiced in India for well over a thousand years. . Originally employed by women to keep their long hair healthy, the treatment stemmed from the belief that the secret behind the growth of lustrous hair lay in regular massage of the scalp with oils. While oils such as coconut, sesame and olive improve the texture of the hair; scalp massage stimulates the local circulation of blood. This has a nourishing effect on the roots of the hair, and helps to prevent hair loss. Traditionally the treatment was restricted to head and hair. Today the method includes treatment of the upper back, shoulders, neck, upper arms and face.

Ayurvedic Indian Head Massage or Champissage as it was originally called has played a part in Indian life for thousands of years. The earliest mention appears to be in Ayurvedic texts dating back 4000 years ago. This form of massage was first introduced in the UK in the 70’s by Guru Narendra Mehta. He used it as an effective tool for clearing blockages of tension in the body. The combination of strokes restores balance, harmony and clarity to the body’s natural energy flow. Indian head massage is particularly helpful for anxiety & stress; it is deeply relaxing- an effortless yet effective way to release mental and physical tension & achieve a calm state of mind. The sense of well- being that follows a treatment has to be experienced to be fully understood. On the other hand, a more stimulating head massage treatment helps to clarify the mind, manage stress, enables one to concentrate without tension and is an effective means of essential oil application. A wide range of different massage techniques incorporating deep thumb and finger pressure, friction and soothing effleurage will be used. A typical massage will take somewhere between 20 and 30 minutes, but can last anywhere up to 45 minutes. The oils used include coconut, sesame, olive & almond- all can be used as a base to blend the essential oils to achieve the desired effect.

Physical benefits include:

  • General & specific relaxation of muscles
  • Loosening of the scalp
  • Relaxation of the whole body
  • Dispersal of toxins from tense knotted muscles
  • Improved circulation of blood
  • Stimulation of the lymphatic system
  • Help in the relief of tension headaches
  • Excellent for insomnia
  • Improves concentration
  • Relief for mental and emotional stress

Aura & Chakra “Massage”
I will make initial contact by placing my hands on each side of your head and slowly taking them away finding the energy connection between my hands and your body. I will then move my hands over you, being aware of any changes in the sensation of energy vibration apparent in my hands. Drops of chosen essences as well as appropriate stones will be placed at chosen sites. – Through this technique we can affect the auric field and rebalance any depleted energy. It employs little contact and lasts anywhere from 45-60 minutes.
