Newsletter Archives Blue Moon News- Spring/April 2005 "Om suasti astu" Greetings, Veneralia (April 1) is the festival of Venus, Roman goddess of love and beauty. Women worshipped by washing the statue of the goddess in sacred waters and adorning HER with flowers, jewels and clothing. They, then, bathed themselves in the waters wearing wreaths of myrtle on their heads and decorating their bodies in a sensuous, pleasure-seeking manner. Give a gift of love to someone on this day, eat seafoods, sweets, cakes and desserts. Beltane (May 1) is probably the most famous fertility festival, a celtic rite featuring large bonfires, dancing around the Maypole (a definite phallic symbol!!)and lots and lots of flowers. A Beltane ccelebration usually includes a great feast of luscious foods, offerings of May wine, flowers and herbs. If possible, sacred sex should be offered up after the ritual. Otherwise, take yourself out to a garden and immerse yourself among the vibrant flowers and lush green grasses. In the spirit of the season, I wish you all peace, love and green blessings!!! Now, read on and enjoy a bit of Celtic wisdom: "Celtic Astrology - The Tree Signs"
Celtic Astrology is based on the lunar Druidic calendar. The Druids, whose culture is believed to stem as far back as 500 BC, believed that each tree contained a magical tree spirit. These tree spirits, known as dryads, symbolize the spiritual nature of humans-exemplifying the subconscious mind, emotions, and connection with the Divine. This system has strong parallels to traditional Astrology, although some believe this method is closer to Vedic Astrology. An interesting aspect of Celtic Astrology is the "Nameless Day". This day falls outside the lunar calendar and represents the unshaped potential of all things-similar to the Fool card of Tarot and the blank stone that has been added to modern rune systems Birch: December 24 - January 20 Traits: Loyal, dutiful, responsible, hard-working, ambitious Rowan: January 21 - February 17 Traits: Eccentric, humanitarian, inventive, visionary, inspirational Ash: February 18 - March 17 Traits: Impressionable, imaginative, artistic, sacrificing, sensitive Alder: March 18 - April 14 Traits: Energetic, enthusiastic, assertive, courageous, abrupt Willow: April 15 - May 12 Traits: Careful, stubborn, practical, reliable, resourceful Hawthorn: May 13 - June 9 Traits: Eloquent, changeable, multi-talented, spontaneous Oak: June 10 - July 7 Traits: Optimistic, determined, cheerful, self-motivated, noble Holly: July 8 - August 4 Traits: Loving, affectionate, good business sense, trustworthy Hazel: August 5 - September 1 Traits: Commanding, willful, creative, dramatic, charismatic Vine: September 2 - September 29 Traits: Meticulous, analytical, productive, modest, critical Ivy: September 30 - October 27, 2004 Traits: Balanced, uniting, sociable, charming, tactful, indecisive Reed: October 26 - November 24 Traits: Mysterious, complex, uncompromising, intense, intuitive, forceful Elder: November 25 - December 22 Traits: Outspoken, philosophical, adventurous, searching Nameless Day: December 23 Traits: Devoted, persistent, responsible, gracious, practical leaderCan't do without our Crystal Essence Body Butters?
