Essential Oil Descriptions


Never apply essential oils undiluted on the skin! Always dilute first in a carrier oil for massage or in water for bathing. Essential Oils are extremely concentrated and should be treated with the utmost respect. Remember that a little goes a long way and more IS NOT better. Always use the minimum amount possible. They are for external use only and should be kept away from the reach of children

Angelica
A most exquisite and precious aromatic oil that has a warm and musky scent. A sacred oil since ancient times, it is still used in hospitals, at births and especially for spiritual intent. Angelica provides protection and direction and helps us feel connected and in touch with our inner self. Physically, it is a wonderful inhalant for bronchitis, coughs, and is helpful for fatigue, migraine and nervous tension.

Basil
Beneficial for mental fatigue & has a clarifying effect on the mind. Strengthening to the nervous system, it can be used to ease depression & indigestion.

Benzoin (Styrax benzoin)
Vanillin gives this oil a creamy powdery aroma, which is faintly reminiscent of chocolate. Soothing and comforting, add to massage oil for a warming rub.

Bergamot
With its uplifting aroma, the oils eases nervousness & is helpful for acne, eczema, cold sores & varicose veins.

Birch
Analgesic that smells a bit like wintergreen. Great for use in any muscle rub blend

Black Pepper
This warming oil is stimulating to mind & body. Primarily used in bath & massage oils, Black Pepper is used for stiff muscles & fatigue, restoring muscle tone & is helpful to the respiratory system.

Bulgarian Rose Damasacena
This long honored women’s remedy soothes feelings of stress, inspires love and compassion and physically helps to stabilize and balance many reproductive disorders. Exceptionally rejuvenating and highly beneficial to the skin, Rose oil is an excellent humectant, toner and anti-inflammatory agent. Rose is also an often used for ritual and meditation.

Cardamom
This is one of the richest scents you will encounter. It is a legendary aphrodisiac due to its ability to arouse sexual desire. Warm, spicy & oh so sweet, Cardamom will energize your body and mind and improve concentration.

Cedarwood
A purifying oil helpful for treating hair loss, dandruff, acne, psoriasis & nervous tension. The scent promotes balance & calmness.

Chamomile, Blue
A true relaxant; this oil treats skin inflammations, eczema, headaches & migraines, soothes nervous conditions and stomach upsets.

Chamomile, Roman
This chamomile is helpful in breaking fevers & is gentle enough for children. It is used for relief of depression & stress, skin care, acne, eczema, rashes & toothache pain.

Champa
Produced in India, this oil is also known as Nag Champa or Champaca. It is a sweet floral used in incenses & perfumes that inspires peace & happiness

Cinnamon Bark
Used for fighting viral infection.

Citronella
Known for its familiar scent, Citronella acts as an insect repellent & a deodorant.

Coriander
The scent is helpful in relieving headaches and is said to help stimulate memory and creativity.

Clary Sage
Known as the "woman's oil"; good for tension, stress and depression. It is particularly beneficial for reducing PMS symptoms.

Clove Bud
Toothaches, powerful aid to the immune system, an astringent & it fights bad breath & infection, good for circulation & memory loss.

Cypress
Stimulating to the nervous system, rheumatism relief & helpful for water retention. A soothing oil also recommended for sleep (avoid with high blood pressure).

Elemi
This oil is light & fresh, has a regulating effect on the nervous system & acts as an antiseptic & expectorant

Eucalyptus
Powerful herb that is cooling & effective for treating coughs, colds, flu,bronchitis & sinus infections. Inhaled or rubbed on the chest, Eucalyptus will help clear congested respiratory passages; Useful in massage oils & balms to treat painful joints & muscles.

Fennel
A stimulant & appetite suppressant.

Frankincense
One of the sacred essences, Frankincense has many therapeutic benefits. Mood altering & centering oil that was used for thousands of years. To this day, frankincense is still used in religious ritual. It is an immune stimulant and antidepressant; provides relief for asthma & coughs & is helpful for regenerating mature & dry skin. It slows down and deepens the breath, and helps one to center.

Geranium, Rose
Geranium oil is antiseptic, antioxidant & astringent. Calming, balancing & uplifting, its hormone regulating properties make it especially effective for menstruation & menopause. Restores balance for both oily & dry complexions, & is an effective treatment for eczema, shingles, acne & athlete’s foot.

Ginger
For colds, sore throats & nausea, helps digestion, aka a memory stimulant & aphrodisiac.

Grapefruit, Ruby
Light citrus scent; a lymphatic stimulant; astringent that is helpful for herpes & acne; stress & nervous conditions

Helichrysum
Very useful in healing & regenerating injured, burned or bruised skin. Dilute in a carrier and massage to help reduce scartissue or stretch marks. Reduces muscle spasms, aches, pains. Highly antiseptic, it also treats infections

Jasmine Sambac
I have always felt Jasmine was ruled by the moon, a very feminine oil with apowerful center. Jasmine affects our emotions and as such is a highly exotic aphrodisiac. Applied to head & neck areas, it has a warm and relaxing quality, and can be helpful for depression and anxiety.

Juniper
Antiseptic, astringent & diuretic. It is useful for kidney & bladder problems, urinary infections & aching muscles.

Lavender
This superior oil should be in every first aid kit; antiseptic & astringent, regulates the nervous system, can be used undiluted on burns and insect bites, beneficial for headaches and aching; a relaxant that promotes restfulness.

Lavender, High
Wildcrafted, grown, picked & distilled above 1600 meters. In terms of chemical components and fragrance, this exquisite oil is truly the lavender all others should be judged by.

Lavender, Spike
Similar in fragrance to other lavenders but has a sharper less flowery tone. Clears the head, eases headache, helps reduce pain and swelling.

Lemon
Stimulates the immune system and helps circulation & concentration; antibacterial & anti-viral.

Lemongrass
Lemongrass has antiviral & sedative properties. It is useful for treating oily skin & dandruff.

Lemon Myrtle
With its fresh lemon odor with a many-layered sweet undertone, this oil is useful for depression, fear, anxiety & stress and is a more effective germ killer than Tea Tree oil. Research suggests it is effective against staph and may support and strengthen the immune system. Respiratory infections and cough, colds and the like are kept at bay via regular inhalation or diffusion in an aroma lamp.

Lime
Properties similar to lemon, this oil aids digestion, asthma, depression, & anxiety.

Mandarin
Properties closely resemble those of chamomile. Very gentle treatment for soothing the nerves, indigestion & insomnia.

Marjoram
Warms the emotions during times of grief; promotes a deep and restful sleep. Useful in treating colds, insomnia, asthma, nervous tension & sprains.

Mugwort
This oil is calming and used for psychic awareness, easing nervousness & inspiring dreams

Myrrh
Anti-inflammatory, antibacterial, antiseptic & anti-fungal properties. Myrrh treats uterine disorders, laryngitis, is healing to the gums, and helps erase wrinkles; assists in asthma & bronchitis relief. It enhances meditation & visualization; Helps to preserve a youthful complexion.

Neroli
Hauntingly erotic and an effective antidepressant as well as aphrodisiac. In facial blends it is said to help skin retain a youthful look and encourage elasticity.

Niaouli
This oil is an antiseptic & protects the immune system from viruses; treats infection, flu, laryngitis, and bronchitis.

Orange
Very cheery & uplifting; helps you unwind and relax, is excellent for nervous conditions and is a safe oil for use with children. Orange boosts the flow of blood & helps control water retention. Helps reduce abdominal spasms, indigestion and nausea.

Oregano - Origanum dubium (Linalool type)
This oil is high in linalool, as is lavender, but also high in carvacrol, as is oregano. It has the healing properties of oregano and lavender. The common name in Turkey is Lavanta Kekik (Lavender Oregano.). ALL oreganos are antiseptic, anti-microbial, anti-fungal, and anti-spasmodic and are immune stimulants. As an inhalant, this oil has a scent you will absolutely love!

Oregano -Origanum vulgare (Carvacrol 86%)
Besides the properties listed above, this one has strong antiseptic properties making it useful in treating chronic skin conditions. Helps loosen congestion and cough. PLEASE be aware that this is NOT the oregano oil in a base of vegetable oil found in some health food stores. This is the pure oil, neat and undiluted from Turkey. Please make sure it is diluted in some virgin olive oil before any external use.

Oregano -(Thymus Capitatus)
Same properties as above, but with a more pleasant and true oregano odor.

Palmarosa
Excellent for healing skin, antiseptic, stimulating, thyroid balancer.

Patchouli
Warm, rich & earthy; an anti-fungal & anti- inflammatory that is good for dry skin & benefits the nervous & glandular systems; a relaxing aphrodisiac

Peppermint
Has both warming & cooling properties; useful for headaches, reducing fevers, clearing sinuses, nausea, digestion and itching.

Petitgrain
This oil is mostly used in perfumes and has a bitter floral aroma. It acts as an antiseptic, antispasmodic & digestive aid & has been known to sharpen mental awareness

Ravensara
The scent is somewhat like Eucalyptus & Clove Bud. Ravensara has antibacterial, antiviral, & immune balancing properties. There isn’t more useful oil for the flu or respiratory ailments. Research suggests Ravensara as an immune stimulant. Especially helpful when diffused in the air or just inhaled.

Rose
Well regarded as the Queen of essential oils. An exquisite sensual oil that nurtures confidence & brings love. It has a powerful effect on the uterus, both cleansing & regulating. The oil supports a healthy stomach, nervous system & liver, besides being excellent oil for skincare, especially dry or aging skin. Treats depression & sadness, soothing away aggressive thoughts and feelings. One of the precious oils, the oil of unconditional love.

Rosemary
Stimulates memory and nervous system; has an analgesic effect on arthritis, sore joints & muscles aches, soothes the inflammation of many skin disorders, eases lines & wrinkles & treats acne.

Rosewood
Antiseptic, also helps ward off infection (viral and bacterial) & fungus.

Sandalwood
A spiritually purifying aphrodisiac; therapeutically supportive for the lymphatic & nervous systems and general skin care. One of the meditative oils, it will relax and center your mind.

Spearmint
Antiseptic, anti-inflammatory & antidepressant; helpful when used for headaches & respiratory complaints; hormone like properties bring a sense of balance to the user

Tangerine
Good for insomnia, oily skin and water retention; a mild oil that soothes grief, anger & nervous tension.

Tea Tree
Beneficial to the immune system; treats acne, athletes foot, cold sores, cuts, dental abscesses and skin infections; promotes t-cell production.

Vetiver
Vetiver stimulates circulation, eases joint & arthritis pain & is moisturizing. Blended with oils, such as Sandalwood & Rose, it relaxes the mind & banishes negative feelings

Ylang-Ylang
Rich floral & exotic aroma, Ylang-Ylang is reputedly a joyful natural aphrodisiac with the wonderful ability to relax and calm. The yellow flow
er of the Ylang- Ylang tree is placed on wedding beds in Indonesia. Beneficial for hair and scalp (stimulates hair growth), its astringent qualities help balance oily skin. Inhalation is said to help lower blood pressure, slow rapid breathing & heart palpitations.
